The year is 2040, a year ago the world went to hell.
Well okay the years up to it had been pretty hellish. War after war after war, and all the rest of it. The constant threat of a nuclear war starting, and the resulting fall out risk meant many survivalists built bunkers to shelter in, and kept them well stocked.
Oh we scoffed at them then. Weren't scoffing when the plague hit. It was an accident, government labs, trying to create something so terrifying it would bring all of humanity into line - and stop the wars entirely. Oh the wars stopped all right. The plague that spread meant people died... if dying includes effectively being reanimated as a living corpse with a hunger for human flesh.
The lucky ones were thankful for the well stocked fall out bunkers. I know we were at Abel Township. We had to shelter there for three weeks before we got some support from the military. Major de Santa was another reason. While she'd lost most of her men she helped hold off the zombies, with just five rifles we managed to hold off 300 of the walking dead in the first week here.
Abel Township is strategically placed, on top of a hill, and the farmhouse - owned by Janine who is another reason we've survived so long - is our main base of operations. It's got a good vantage point over the land, and plenty of locations for snipers. As long as you can fulfill a job - whether that's out running retrieving supplies, manning communications, or even farming the land, we've got a use for you.
In this hell of reanimated dead we don't care who you are, or where you come from. The only thing of importance to us is how useful you are.
Good luck, you're going to need it to survive. We've seen more then a few people go in our time here.
Oh sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. Evan Deaubl, head of runners, officially designated as runner 7.
